Weeping Quarry

Weeping Quarry

The Black Mist has to be quarried out of something, and the Weeping Quarry is where. It cuts saltstone, a soft grey rock that holds moisture and holds it badly: open a face of it and it beads and runs for days. The water on every wall is groundwater and nothing more. Everyone working the pit knows that, and they still call it weeping, because after twenty years of listening to it no other word fits.

The company that owns the pit works it on debt contracts. You are paid in scrip, the scrip buys food from the company store, the food costs slightly more than the scrip is worth, and the difference is added to what you owe. Nobody has ever finished paying. Dying does not clear the balance either - the ledger moves the debt to your next of kin, and the next of kin is usually already in the pit. So the shifts continue.

The final boss

Quarrymaster Oduun, Who Counts is not cruel. He is an accountant. He keeps the ledger, he keeps it accurately, and he cannot conceive of closing it. Foreman Hask has been unpaid long enough to stop expecting otherwise, and takes it out on the terraces. Oduun takes it out on nobody. When he finally comes at you he does it while reciting what you now owe him for the men you killed on the way in.

Before you enter

The recommended level is 35. Treat it as a starting point: farm earlier tiers, upgrade gear, and adjust your pet when a boss stops you.

Difficulty inside a dungeon comes from one number that climbs with the tier, and the step between tiers is a large fraction of the gap between dungeons. So a wall at tier 7 here is not a signal to grind this dungeon harder - it usually means the opening tiers of the next dungeon are a better use of the hour, and you come back with the gear they dropped.
